Decision Maker: Director: Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To agree to accept the funding offered from the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (£55,000) for 2024/25 to deliver and commission a range of initiatives related to the national review of Community Cohesion and Resilience to build community relationships and counter harmful narratives.

Reasons for the decision:

The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government is undertaking a national review of Community Cohesion and Resilience.

The project will include the following
- Specific questionnaires and engagement from MHCLG to Local Authorities on various aspects of Community Cohesion including Tension Monitoring, Community Engagement Tools and the impact of Migrants.
- Site visits by the Community Cohesion Unit to engage with the Local Authority, Faith and VCSE Groups in local areas to get an overview of the current situation.
- A specific grant of £55,000 for 24/25 to provide support to local areas to deliver projects that build community relationships and work to prevent and counter harmful narratives.

Alternative options considered:

Alternatively, options were to not accept the funding and seek to explore alternative ways to engage with local communities on cohesion issues.

The decision has been taken to use grant funding as this would not add any pressures onto existing budgets.
