To agree suspend/vary Constitution Council Procedure Rules –

Minutes:

Resolved Unanimously – That the following suspension/variation of the Council’s Constitution Procedure Rules be agreed -

 

(i)D1.15 Notices of Motion - to allow for a joint motion to be considered and moved jointly and seconded jointly at the Special Meeting, and

 

(ii) D1.18 Rules of Debate – to allow for the joint movers of the joint motion to both speak for not more than ten minutes each (both with a right of reply). Joint seconders of the joint motion and all other members who have been listed to speak in the Order of Business to speak for not more than five minutes.

Minutes:

 

It was moved jointly by Councillor R Waltham MBE and Councillor L Foster and seconded jointly by Councillor R Hannigan and Councillor A Davison –

 

'The Council resolves on behalf of local steelworkers, their families and future generations, to promote the world-class integrated steelworks in Scunthorpe, with its highly skilled and committed workforce.

 

This council commits to work with British Steel to protect jobs, and to work with the government to secure additional investment to further enhance steel production facilities in Scunthorpe.

 

And that this council works with the UK Government to invest in British Steel as a significant long-term stakeholder, to include potential nationalisation, if required, to ensure the continuity of primary steel making in Scunthorpe and the UK, accepting the strategic significance of steel production within the UK.

 

This council resolves that every council member will work together, cross party, with the Unions and Government to ensure a sustainable future for steel making in Scunthorpe.

 

Furthermore, that this council fully commits to the use of UK steel in its procurement policies, and puts pressure on UK Government to do the same.'
