North Lincolnshire Youth Council and Young Voice Annual Report

Minutes:

16    NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE YOUTH COUNCIL AND YOUNG VOICE – ANNUAL REPORT – The Director: Governance and Partnerships submitted a report presenting the North Lincolnshire Youth Council (NLYC) and Young Voice Annual Report 2019/20.

The NLYC was a constituted group of children and young people who came together voluntarily to be the vehicle for young voice in North Lincolnshire. Along with youth councils, regionally and nationally, the NLYC aimed to:

·       communicate and promote the views of young people

·       raise the profile of young people in a positive way

·       encourage young people to be good citizens, so they act with understanding and communicate between themselves and their communities

·       highlight issues affecting young people, with a democratic and representative role

·       shape and influence priority setting, service planning and delivery and ensure the views of young people were considered by the council and its partners.

Since the inception of the NLYC in 2011, it had evolved its membership and across its various representative groups of young people, their young voice had influenced strategic priorities, service delivery and commissioning. The voice of young people was firmly at the centre of improving outcomes for young people in North Lincolnshire.

The council was committed to engaging with children, young people, and their families at an individual, service, and strategic level.  The council continued to invest in and support the NLYC to ensure that the views and experiences of children and young people were integral to priority setting, strategic planning, service delivery and commissioning.

The NLYC and Young Voice Annual Report 2019/20 highlighted work undertaken across the NLYC and wider young voice activities and outlined the impact and outcomes of engagement, predominantly at a service, local, regional and national level.  The annual report also focused on young people’s perspectives and experiences during the pandemic and associated restrictions.

Resolved – (a) That the North Lincolnshire Youth Council and Young Voice Annual Report be noted and welcomed; (b) that the report be published and circulated widely to schools, colleges, across the council and its partners and key stakeholder groups, and (c) that the participation, roles, work and impact of the North Lincolnshire Youth Council and the wider young voice in North Lincolnshire be noted.
