7        TOWNS FUND – ENABLING A FUTURE FOR CLEAN GROWTH IN SCUNTHORPE – PROJECT AND FUNDING – The Director: Economy and Environment submitted a report seeking approval of a clean growth energy project for Scunthorpe through the Town Fund Board.

A project within the Scunthorpe Towns Deal was Enabling a Future for Clean Growth in Scunthorpe (the project).  The project aimed to deliver an extensive amount of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on numerous schools and community buildings in North Lincolnshire.  The PV systems would provide onsite renewable electricity directly to the end user.  They would support organisations in growing sustainably through utilising green energy, reducing energy bills, and improving carbon footprints.

The council had received approval from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities for a total of £1.4m  to be allocated for the delivery of the project over the next three financial years.

In total, the council had identified 30 school and/or community sites within Scunthorpe that the Towns Fund money would be used on to allow for solar PV to be delivered to these sites at scale and at a reduced price.  This would support with reducing the cost of energy and significantly reduce the carbon emissions generated by these sites.

The report set out full details of how the schemes would be delivered.

Resolved – (a) That the Towns Fund Enabling a Future for Clean Growth project be approved, and (b) that decisions on all future matters relating to the project be delegated to the Assistant Director - Place.
