Media Relations & Publicity Management Policy

Minutes:

10      MEDIA RELATIONS AND PUBLICITY MANAGEMENT POLICY– The Deputy Chief Executive submitted a report seeking consideration and approval of the Media Relations and Publicity Management policy.

The council managed and maintained positive working relationships with a range of media outlets, both traditional and new, to ensure appropriate communication was achieved to inform, educate, motivate and reassure residents and businesses in relation to its policies, procedures and practices.

The council also shared a broad range of content across its own channels to ensure appropriate communication was achieved to inform, educate, motivate and reassure residents in relation to its policies, procedures and practices.

A large body of information, advice and guidance along with codes of conduct and statute existed to assist the council, its officers and its members as to how they could and should operate safely and in an assured way which both protected the sanctity of the democratic mandate whilst also ensuring the maintenance of trust and confidence in the organisation.

The council’s Media Relations and Publicity Management policy, developed in April 2019, captured the breadth of this information and combined it with good practice advice and guidance explicitly to support members and officers to operate safely when seeking to generate communications.

Good practice dictated that this be periodically reviewed.

Resolved – That the Media Relations and Publicity Management policy be approved.
