28      COMMUNITY GRANT FUND – KING CHARLES III CORONATION CELEBRATIONS – The Director: Governance and Communities submitted a report considering a scheme to offer grant aid to community groups and town and parish councils to support communities to commemorate the Coronation of Kings Charles III, and to approve an allocation of funding from the Community Grant Fund to support the scheme and enable the planning of events.

In May 2023 the nation would come together over a three-day Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

In November 2022 the Government announced an additional Bank Holiday on Monday 8 May 2023 to celebrate His Majesty The King’s Coronation to enable communities, town and parish councils, along with voluntary organisations, to join in the celebrations.

The initiatives requesting support were likely to range from small community events to large celebrations.  The community grant fund had in the past supported communities to come together to celebrate significant events.

Resolved - (a) That the scheme of grant aid for communities to celebrate the King’s Coronation, as set out in the criteria at Appendix 1 to the report, be approved, and (b) that any shortfall in funding for the scheme be identified from existing core budgets.
