Imagination Library - Discussion with the Assistant Director, Community Enablement and Colleagues

Minutes:

The Chairman welcomed Sandra Simmons, Assistant Director, Community Enablement, Emma Wilkinson, Senior Officer – Community and Family Learning, and Katie Carter, Development Office – Community and Family Learning, to the meeting.  The Chairman explained that Sandra, Emma and Katie had been invited to provide an update on the Imagination Library in North Lincolnshire, which aimed to improve childhood literacy.

Sandra and her colleagues gave a detailed presentation on the subject, highlighting that North Lincolnshire was the most successful organisation of its kind in the world. The presentation covered the latest data, the impact of the imagination library, the multi-agency work that was underway, feedback from children and young people, and parents and guardians, and the local literacy offer.  An overview of some of the books that were available was given to the panel.

The Panel welcomed the success of the Imagination Library within North Lincolnshire, including the beneficial impact on learning and educational outcomes.  The Chairman then led a discussion on issues such as how books were chosen, the impact of the pandemic, the type of books for those with SEND, and how North Lincolnshire works to support other councils and other organisations.  Sandra, Emma and Katie responded appropriately throughout.

Resolved – (a) That Sandra Simmons, Emma Wilkinson, and Katie Carter be thanked for their attendance and their informative presentation; and (b) that the work around the Imagination Library continue to be welcomed and supported.
