Minutes:

The Chairman welcomed Jemima Flintoff, Assistant Director - Education, to the meeting.  The Chairman explained that Jemima had been invited to update members on School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) and the outcomes of a recent Ofsted inspection into the provider.

Jemima provided a verbal presentation on the programme, which aimed to encourage new teachers into service, through practical, supported teaching in a school setting, supported by academic work.  Details on mentorship, accreditation, placements, and numbers in training were provided.

The presentation also provided an overview of Ofsted’s findings, which rated the programme’s quality, leadership, and effectiveness as ‘good’, with an overall rating, also as ‘good’.

The Chairman then led a discussion on the presentation, with the panel asking questions about the assessment process for trainees, the impact on schools, financial payments, the demographic make-up of applicants, and academic specialisms. Jemima responded accordingly, confirming that the majority of those completing their placements stayed within North Lincolnshire.  It was also confirmed that the drop-out rate was exceptionally low, and that the service was maintained fully during the pandemic.  The panel welcomed the positive impression of the programme, as well as the outcome of the Ofsted inspection.

Resolved – (a) That Jemima Flintoff be thanked for the presentation and for responding to the panel’s questions; and (b) that the situation be noted.
