Provision of Occupational Therapy Services

Minutes:

The corresponding report of the following item (Minute 5 refers) contains exempt information as defined in Paragraphs 1 and 2 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended).

5        PROVISION OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES – The Director: Adults and Health submitted a report recommending that the provision of Occupational Therapy Services be brought in house to North Lincolnshire Council.

The council and North Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) currently commissioned an integrated Occupational Therapy (OT) Service for adults with North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG).

The OT service contributed to the outcomes to keep people in North Lincolnshire Safe and Well in line with the Council Plan 2022-25.  As with all services delivered on behalf of the council there was a priority to provide value for money for local taxpayers, promoting efficiency and saving money was a key consideration with the options presented and recommendation with the report.

The commissioned service included assessments under the Care Act 2014 for mobility aids and equipment, Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) and Major Adaptations as per the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996. The service provided information and advice to service users and carers on the management of disability to achieve greater independence and reduce the level of care required.

NLaG and the council had discussed and mutually agreed that NLaG should cease delivering the council commissioned element of the OT service.  Full details were set out in the report.

Resolved – (a) That the decision to bring the Occupational Therapy Service in house, be approved and (b) that the efficiencies and value for money gained with a full internal service, be noted.
